Why Counselling?

We all experience difficulties and problems throughout life. Sometimes, however, we find coping with these can become challenging and overwhelming. Talking them through with a counsellor, in a safe, confidential space can be an effective way of helping you deal with them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can anyone get counselling?

We welcome enquiries from charities, housing associations, community interest companies and other third sector organisations in Dorset about how we can work together to support those in need. We also accept self-referrals. We are unable to offer the service if you have pending criminal proceedings or court dates. (Family court not included). Please also be aware that issues around adoption are not suitable for our trainee counsellors to work with. We are able to sign post you to an agency with suitable support.

What kind of counselling do you offer?

Counselling is delivered either in person or online. Our students study the humanistic method of counselling. You can read more about the theory here https://www.bacp.co.uk/about-therapy/types-of-therapy/humanistic-therapy/

How do I apply?

The first thing to do is to complete our contact form. Our Service Coordinator will then get in touch with you and establish whether our service is suitable via a brief initial telephone call. If we think we can help we will pass your details on to our assessment team who will then take you through a more in-depth questionnaire. This will last for between 45 minutes to an hour and will give you an opportunity to learn more about what counselling can offer and to ensure that what we offer matches your needs. After this you will be matched with a trainee counsellor.

How much does it cost?

The initial telephone assessment is up to 50 minutes with a qualified counsellor and is charged at a rate of £25. Counselling sessions are £20 each.

If you’re unable to find the answer you’re looking for you can get in touch with us using the details below.
